Born in the UK, educated at the University of Toronto, and trained as a Chartered Accountant, He began his career at Magna International in Canada and rose to be a Vice President in Germany. Returning to Canada, he founded and grew his own consulting business, and then acquired Huys Industries 20 years ago. Huys developed its research and development team and expanded over the years with three companies in Canada and the USA. Huys’ growth came from improvements in the electro spark deposition (ESD) process that they use in manufacturing. Huys is now the largest user of the process in the world. In 2019 the Huys team of engineers were granted a number of additional patents in this field of Low Energy Welding (LEW) and offer a wide range the equipment and services.
Huys’ process and equipment patents in ESD and in the LEW process are unique in that metallurgical welds can be made to join, coat and repair metals and cermets without a heat affected zone (HAZ), usually without measurable residual stresses.
Now Nigel Scotchmer is providing Huys’ products, service and innovations international.
